    Nutrition is not only important for our children’s bodies, but also their mouth! Each time we are exposed to anything acidic (juices, fruits, carbohydrates, starches, sugars, milk), the pH of our mouth drops into an acidic state.  This leeches minerals from the teeth; this leeching is the start of tooth decay.  It takes a full 20-30 minutes to get back into a neutral pH where minerals start to reenter the teeth. When our mouth is in a constant acidic state because of frequent exposure to acidic foods, we are at high risk for cavities. It is best to have our snacks, drinks, and meals all within a 20-30 minute window each time and to sip only water in-between meals and snacks.
